  • Walk through the historic park dedicated to the 28 Panfilov heroes. Explore the Holy Ascension (Zenkov) Cathedral, a striking 1907 masterpiece built entirely of wood without using a single metal nail.

• Excursion & The 700-Year-Old Willow

  • Hike through the dry labyrinth of multi-colored canyons. On the way back, stop at the Kosbastau oasis to see a massive, ancient willow tree whose trunk takes several people to completely embrace.

  • Visit an incredible 150-meter-high sand dune that inexplicably stands amid a rocky plain. Climb to its crest; in dry weather, the shifting sands vibrate to create a deep, organ-like acoustic hum.

• Departure to Charyn Canyon via Chundzha

  • Set a course south toward the Tien Shan range. At 14:00, stop for lunch in Chundzha village to sample authentic local and Uyghur dishes.

• 16:00 — Charyn Canyon ("Valley of Castles")

  • Arrive at the famous natural monument whose sandstone walls have been sculpted over 12 million years. Enjoy a scenic 2.5 km hike along the canyon floor down to the rushing Charyn River, followed by a comfortable eco-taxi lift back to the top.
